Biography
Hanako Mohri
Hanako Mohri Born in Tokyo in 1997. Lives and works in Tokyo. Hanako Mohri graduated from the Department of Imaging Arts and Sciences, Musashino Art University in 2024, and completed her M.A. in Imaging Arts and Sciences at the Graduate School of Musashino Art University in 2026. In 2025, she studied at China Academy of Art in Hangzhou as an exchange student.
Mohri works across installation, moving image, and painting, focusing on the relationship between standardized collective housing, such as public housing complexes, and the bathroom as a private space located deep within the home. By dismantling and reconstructing nested spatial structures—from exterior walls to the surface of the individual body—she explores the location of self-identity within contemporary urban life.
Her work has been selected for the 28th and 29th Taro Okamoto Award for Contemporary Art. She has also presented her work internationally, including screenings at SiamANIMA in Thailand and participation in the 2025 World University Student Contemporary Art Exhibition in Xinjiang, China.
